The EPN – Essentials of Pharmaceutical Practice

The EPP training covers all aspects of pharmacy work, including public health aspects, ethical aspects and communication skills. The unique concept of EPP provides a learner with an education enabling them to successfully organize and run a dispensary in an African setting. In the past we have physically conducted 12-weeks EPP courses in more than 10 countries across Africa. We are currently customizing the training into an online content to continue strengthening the capacity of hospital pharmacy practitioners despite the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic. The trainings
have shown positive results in stock management, quality medicines dispensing and generally enhanced best practices.

The EPP course imparts competencies required for day to day delivery of quality pharmaceutical services.

The overall objective of the course is to equip the candidates with basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills to support the delivery of pharmaceutical services. Thus, at the end of the course, the
candidate should be able to:

• Translate and implement theoretical concepts of pharmacy practice into day to day operations (essential medicines concept, dispensing, rational use of medicines and compounding)
• Identify basic medicines and understand their use in the management of common health conditions
• Understand and implement good medicine management practices
• Communicate effectively with patients and members of the health care team
• Implement basic standard operating procedures in pharmacy practice
• Use basic tools available from EPN and other organizations to improve the practice of pharmacy
• Understand the legal and regulatory aspects of pharmacy practice and uphold pharmacy ethics
